Teeth whitening cost in India (2026)
What whitening costs in India, which option suits you, and the safety points to know before you book.
In-clinic teeth whitening in India typically costs ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 per course. Take-home whitening trays from a dentist cost about ₹5,000 to ₹9,000. Shop-bought strips and toothpastes cost less, about ₹200 to ₹6,000, but they work more slowly.
These are typical ranges reported by Indian clinics in 2025-26, and they vary by city and clinic. Before you pay for whitening, check whether a simple clean is all you need. I explain below.
How to read these prices
These are typical ranges reported by Indian clinics in 2025-26. Most chains publish a starting price, so your quote can be higher. Prices vary by city and clinic. No single clinic sets the market price.
What affects the cost of teeth whitening
In-clinic or at home
In-clinic whitening uses a stronger gel and is done in one or two sittings. Take-home trays use a milder gel over a few weeks.
The system used
Clinics use different gels and light systems. Branded systems often cost more.
How much change you want
Deeper stains may need more sessions, or in-clinic plus take-home trays.
Work needed first
Cavities, gum problems or tartar should be treated before whitening. That adds to the total.
Your city and clinic
Metro clinics usually charge more. One price guide shows the highest averages in Mumbai and Delhi.
What is usually included
- A check of your teeth and gums, and a shade record before you start.
- Protecting your gums before the gel goes on, for in-clinic whitening.
- The whitening gel and any light used.
- Custom trays and gel syringes, for take-home kits.
Scaling, fillings and top-up gel are usually extra.
In-clinic, take-home and shop products compared
| Option | How it works | Published prices (₹) |
|---|---|---|
| In-clinic whitening | Stronger gel applied by the dentist, sometimes with a light, in 1 to 2 sittings | From ₹4,990 at a national chain. ₹7,000 to ₹12,000 in one price guide. ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 in Hyderabad in another |
| Take-home trays from a dentist | Custom trays and a milder gel used at home for a few weeks | ₹5,000 to ₹9,000 in one price guide |
| Whitening strips | Thin strips with gel, bought from a shop | ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 in one price guide |
| Whitening toothpaste | Removes surface stains. Does not bleach the tooth | ₹200 to ₹500 in one price guide |
One hospital article gives a much higher range for in-clinic whitening, ₹22,500 to ₹75,000. That is well above every other source I found, so I have not used it for the typical range.
Safety notes
What to know before you whiten
- Short-term sensitivity and gum irritation are the most common side effects. They usually settle within a few days.
- Whitening only works on natural teeth. Crowns, veneers and tooth-coloured fillings will not change shade.
- Get a dental check first. Whitening over a cavity or sore gums can hurt.
- Follow the instructions on any product. Using more gel or wearing trays longer does not make teeth whiter faster.
Whitening may not suit you if you are pregnant, have very sensitive teeth or have gum disease. Ask your dentist first.
Questions to ask your dentist
- Will cleaning alone give me the result I want?
- Which whitening method do you suggest for my stains, and why?
- How many sessions will I need? Is each one charged?
- Are trays and top-up gel included?
- Will my crowns or fillings need replacing to match?
Cheaper vs pricier options, honestly
Start with a professional clean. Many people who think they need whitening have surface stains from tea, coffee or tobacco. A clean costs far less and may be enough.
Take-home trays from a dentist often give a similar result to in-clinic whitening. They take longer. In-clinic whitening is faster, which is useful before an event.
Shop products cost less but work slowly and less strongly. If you have sensitive teeth, ask a dentist before using them. For bigger changes in colour or shape, read our guide to cosmetic dentistry in India.

Frequently asked questions
What is the cost of teeth whitening in India?
In-clinic teeth whitening in India typically costs ₹5,000 to ₹15,000. Dentist-supervised take-home tray kits cost about ₹5,000 to ₹9,000. Whitening strips and toothpastes from shops cost less, but they work more slowly and less strongly.
How long does teeth whitening last?
It depends on your habits. Tea, coffee, paan, tobacco and some foods stain teeth again over time. Many people need a top-up later. Ask your dentist how to keep your result.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Whitening supervised by a dentist is generally considered safe. The most common side effects are short-term tooth sensitivity and gum irritation, which usually settle within a few days. A dental check first is sensible, so cavities or gum problems are treated before whitening.
Will whitening change the colour of my crowns or fillings?
No. Whitening only works on natural teeth. Crowns, veneers and tooth-coloured fillings keep their shade. They may look darker than your newly whitened teeth, so plan this with your dentist.
Is cleaning cheaper than whitening?
Yes. Scaling and polishing typically costs ₹500 to ₹3,000. It removes tartar and surface stains, so teeth often look brighter. It does not change the natural shade. If your teeth look dull because of stains, a clean may be enough.
Is CGHS or insurance coverage available for whitening?
Teeth whitening does not appear on the CGHS dental rate list. It is a cosmetic treatment, so check with your insurer, but expect to pay yourself.
See a dentist in person if…
- A single tooth has turned dark or grey. This can mean the nerve is damaged.
- Sensitivity after whitening lasts more than a few days or is severe.
- Your gums are sore, white or peeling after using a whitening product.
- You have brown or white spots that are getting bigger.
