Braces cost in India (2026): metal, ceramic, self-ligating and lingual

What each type of braces costs in India, what your fee should cover, and how to compare quotes before you commit.

Braces in India typically cost ₹25,000 to ₹1,09,000 for the full course of treatment. Metal braces cost about ₹25,000 to ₹53,000, ceramic braces about ₹48,000 to ₹68,000, and self-ligating braces about ₹40,000 to ₹1,09,000. Lingual braces, fixed behind the teeth, cost the most.

These are typical ranges reported by Indian clinics in 2025-26. They vary by city and clinic. Below I explain what changes the price, what you should get for it, and how to choose.

How to read these prices

These are typical ranges reported by Indian clinics in 2025-26. Most chains publish a starting price, so your quote can be higher. Prices vary by city and clinic. No single clinic sets the market price.

What affects the cost of braces

  • Type of brackets

Metal brackets cost the least. Tooth-coloured ceramic and self-ligating brackets cost more. Lingual braces are custom-made for the back of your teeth.

  • How complex your case is

Mild crowding needs fewer months than a bite problem. Longer treatment means more visits and a higher fee.

  • Who treats you

Braces are often managed by an orthodontist, a dentist with an MDS in tooth alignment. Clinics may charge more for this.

  • Extra steps

Some cases need teeth removed to make space, or extra appliances. These are often billed separately.

  • Your city

Fees are usually higher in metros. The government CGHS rate for fixed braces is ₹15,000 per jaw in a Tier I city, and 10% to 20% lower in smaller cities.

What is usually included

  • Records before treatment: photos, impressions or scans, and X-rays. Some clinics charge for these.
  • Fitting the brackets and wires on both jaws.
  • Adjustment visits, usually every few weeks.
  • Removing the braces at the end.

Retainers are often extra. One national chain lists them at ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 for both jaws. Extractions, if needed, are also usually extra.

Types of braces compared

TypeHow it looksPublished prices, full course (₹)
Metal bracesSilver brackets on the front of the teeth₹25,500 to ₹52,900 at a national chain. ₹40,000 at another
Ceramic bracesTooth-coloured brackets, harder to see₹47,900 to ₹67,567 at a national chain. ₹50,000 at another
Self-ligating braces (metal or ceramic)Brackets with a built-in clip instead of elastic ties₹39,900 to ₹1,08,900 at a national chain. ₹50,000 to ₹60,000 at another
Lingual bracesFixed behind the teeth, hidden from viewFew clinics publish prices. One Bangalore listing shows about ₹1,35,000

Self-ligating braces have the widest range because both metal and ceramic versions exist, and brands differ. Ask which one you are being quoted for.

What about clear aligners?

Clear aligners are removable plastic trays that move teeth in small steps. They are an option for many mild to moderate cases. Published prices in India start at about ₹35,000 and go up to ₹3,00,000. See the full breakdown in clear aligners cost in India.

Questions to ask your dentist

  • Which type of braces is this quote for? Which brand of bracket?
  • How many months do you expect treatment to take?
  • Does the fee cover all adjustment visits, X-rays and records?
  • Are retainers included? How much are replacement retainers?
  • Will I need any teeth removed? Is that extra?
  • What happens to the fee if treatment takes longer than planned?
  • Who will do my adjustment visits?

Cheaper vs pricier options, honestly

Metal braces are the lowest-cost option and they work well. The higher price of ceramic and lingual braces mainly buys you looks during treatment. That is a fair thing to pay for, if it matters to you.

Self-ligating braces may need fewer tightening steps. Whether that shortens your treatment depends on your case, so ask your dentist what they expect for you.

Be careful with a quote that is much lower than others. Check whether it leaves out records, retainers or visits. A lower fee that adds these later can cost more in the end.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cost of braces in India?

Braces in India typically cost ₹25,000 to ₹1,09,000 for the full course. Metal braces are the lowest, at about ₹25,000 to ₹53,000. Ceramic and self-ligating braces cost more. Lingual braces, fixed behind the teeth, cost the most.

Which type of braces is the cheapest?

Conventional metal braces are usually the cheapest. National chains publish metal braces from about ₹25,500 to ₹52,900 for the full course. They are also the most widely used type.

Are braces cost per year or for the full treatment?

Most clinics quote one fee for the full course of treatment, which often lasts 6 to 24 months. Some charge a part upfront and the rest in instalments. Ask whether the fee covers adjustment visits and retainers.

Do I need to pay for retainers separately?

Often, yes. One national chain lists retainers at ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 for both jaws. Retainers keep your teeth in their new position after braces come off, so ask if they are in your quote.

Are ceramic braces worth the extra cost?

Ceramic braces are tooth-coloured, so they are harder to see. They work in a similar way to metal braces. They are worth it if appearance during treatment matters a lot to you. If it does not, metal braces cost less.

Is there an age limit for braces?

Teeth can be moved at any age if the gums and bone are healthy. Adults often choose ceramic braces or aligners. Your dentist will check your gums before starting.

See a dentist in person if…

  • A wire is poking your cheek or gum and you cannot tuck it away.
  • A bracket or band has come loose.
  • You have swelling, a sore that does not heal, or pain that keeps getting worse.
  • Your child's jaw or bite looks very uneven. An early check helps plan the right time for treatment.
